How big should my audience be?

Tighter is usually better

A sharp audience outperforms a broad one. Relevance is also a deliverability feature, not just a conversion one: the strongest spam signal there is comes from people marking irrelevant mail as spam.

Resist the urge to widen a brief just to get the number up.

There is a minimum

A campaign needs enough verified, not-yet-contacted people before it can launch for the first time. Below that you will see a message naming the count, something like "only N of the M verified, not-yet-contacted leads required".

Two ways forward:

  1. Run the governed audience top-up, which keeps hunting for more people matching the same brief
  2. Broaden the brief and search again

Buffering

A campaign may launch and deliberately stage paused while its audience tops up to the floor. That is the system refusing to send an under-volume campaign, not a fault. It goes live on its own once the floor is met.

Running out

If a campaign exhausts its audience, replenishment keeps looking for new people on its own schedule and tops it up when it finds them.
