Understanding the universe view
Campaign → Universe shows every company that matched your brief, not just the ones being contacted. It is ranked best-first, with facets and search.
Use it before you look at copy
The universe is where you sanity-check targeting. If the companies look wrong here, no amount of copy editing will fix the campaign — the brief is what needs changing.
Read a sample from the top, the middle, and the bottom. Where the quality falls off tells you how tight your brief actually is.
Why it is so much bigger than your contact count
A campaign that matched 10,000 companies does not email 10,000 people. At each step:
- Not every matched company has an identifiable person in the role you asked for
- Not every identified person has a findable email address
- Not every found address passes verification
- Some are excluded deliberately — opt-outs, already-contacted people, gateways that reject cold mail
A large universe and a much smaller contactable list is normal and healthy. It means the quality gates are working.
If the drop-off looks extreme, the usual cause is a role that is genuinely rare or rarely has a public address.
